Active adventures
A region of old villages, forests, volcanic-sand beaches, and 3,000-metre peaks, East Bali is replete with opportunities for high-altitude adventure. Trekking
Pass through the villages of old Bali and stumble across traditional Balinese festivals, or climb to the top of Mount Batur to watch the sunrise over Mount Agung and Mount Abang. A multitude of trekking options are available from Amankila.
Cycling
Located in the unspoilt Eastern region of Bali, there are many opportunities for exploration by bike. One of the most popular routes, Budakeling to Ujung, begins in the shadow of Mount Agung and takes guests past Tirta Gangga Water Palace, along quiet village roads and emerald-green rice terraces.
Horse riding
Venture into the beauty of the magnificent surroundings of Karangasem accompanied by the faithful local horses. Horse riding through the jungles, rice fields, or the iconic Karangasem volcanic-sand beach whilst basking either under the sunset or sunrise is an experience not to be missed. This experience can be tailored to suit all abilities and ages.
Ascending the peaks
Famed for its volcanic peaks and lush rice paddies, East Bali has long attracted mountain climbers eager to summit Mount Agung, Mount Batar and beyond. A multitude of guided climbing experiences are available from Amankila.
Mount Agung
Mount Agung provides a dramatic backdrop for Amankila, towering 3,142m (10,308ft) above sea level, it is the highest point on the island of Bali. The vertical ascent to the summit of Mount Agung is challenging, with steep trails taking approximately 4 to 5 hours and requires a high level of fitness and endurance.
Mount Batur
Situated in Bali’s Bangli region, Mount Batur has long drawn avid climbers eager to watch the sunrise over Mount Agung and Mount Abang. The hike to the top of the 1,717m (5,633ft) peak takes approximately two hours and requires a medium level of fitness and endurance.
Tamansari Hill
There is no better way to start the day than a leisurely hike and breakfast with a view. As the sun’s first rays light up Mount Agung and the rice terraces of the Buitan Valley, relax in Amankila's open-air bale atop Tamansari Hill.
